I am so thrilled to show you all my latest cake! My clients came to me with a picture of a cake from the amazing Kaysie Lackey of the People’s Cake and ask me to recreate her Woodland Wedding Cake in a style to suit their theme. The inspiration for the cake came from the couple carving their own initials into a tree in the early days of their relationship and when they saw a cake with this idea, they knew they had to have it for their big day.
The couple had their reception at the Barbican Conservatory and so the natural theme worked extremely well with the setting.
The sugar flowers were made to match their wedding flowers with purple anemones, calla lillies and dusky pink roses.
The crowning glory were the bird cake toppers which I also handmade to suit their theme.
The inspiration for them came from the fact that the newlyweds would actually be “Mr & Mrs Finch” so they wanted to include birds in some way.
The rest of the cake was entirely edible, right down to the soil and mushrooms on the cake board.
All in all, it’s a great alternative to a traditional wedding cake don’t you think?
Hey there! This cake looks amazing!!! So I like to try it by myself. But how did you make the cake cover looking like a trunk? Can you please, please give away the secret?
Many thanks Peter. The bark is made from a modelling chocolate wrap and then the texture is created by dabbing runny royal icing on top. Colour is then added by using a few light washes of dust colour mixed with colourless alcohol. Hope that helps!
