About Me

Hello! I’m Clare, a South-East London based wedding cake designer, sugar flower artist and founder of Little Bear Cakery. Let me tell you a little about me…

Sugar flowers are my absolute passion. And so in 2020, I also established The Botanical Cake Studio where I teach my craft. I teach in person from my studio, as well as online to students all over the world via my online school, blog and YouTube channel.

At Little Bear Cakery, I take on a limited number of wedding cake commissions per year that are in line with my feminine, floral and organic design aesthetic. I love working with different materials and textures as well as drawing inspiration from fashion, wedding and lifestyle trends. But for me, the main focus will always be on showstopping flowers.

My Beginnings

I grew up always helping my mum in the kitchen and forever baking. Cake was an everyday occurrence in our household and definitely not just reserved for birthdays or special occasions! This love of food led to me to train in Professional Cookery and Patisserie & Confectionery and pursue a career as a chef. I have worked in many areas of the catering industry, from hotels and restaurants to corporate fine-dining. However, it was at college when I  made my first sugar flower, that I realised that a career in cakes was my destiny.

Whilst still working as a chef, I began practicing my craft by baking cakes for anyone that would have them. I also started writing recipes for my blog, Little Bear Cakery. In 2012, this blog and side-venture became a business and the name has stuck!

From small beginnings baking from my tiny kitchen in Hackney I honed my skills. And I now work from a beautiful spacious studio space at the bottom of my garden in South East London.

What can you expect from a Little Bear Cakery wedding cake?

The taste has always been a top priority for me which is why I offer an extensive menu of 17 different flavours. Only the finest responsibly sourced ingredients are used in Little Bear Cakery products. I use free-range eggs, Callebaut Belgian chocolate, real vanilla seeds scraped fresh from the pod as well as luxury preserves and curds.

Little Bear Cakery has previously been awarded the highest level of hygiene rating from food.gov.uk. Since moving to Lewisham, I am currently awaiting inspection on my new premises to achieve a final rating.
