May was such a busy month this year with 10 wedding cakes, my 30th birthday and hen-do and of course plenty of prep for my own wedding and cake! However this pink ruffles and gold leaf wedding cake has to be one of the highlights. It was full on maximal with the detailing – a stark contrast to the stripped back naked wedding cakes of late.

I loved every aspect of this wedding because of the couple’s really personal and local approach. They were married just a stone’s throw from their Bermondsey flat and had their reception at their favourite local restaurant Zucca with canapé and drinks reception at The Vitrine Gallery over the road.

To top it off, I had a wedding dream team to work with – Charley Beard aka London Bride, styling and coordinating and the wonderful Laura of Babb Photo working her magic behind the lens.

The main decor theme was frilly blush pink peonies with gold accents which translated directly onto the cake with delicate gold leaf and lace detail, handcrafted sugar peonies and spray roses and layers of undulating ruffles.

The couple chose 3 tiers of “Cherry Bakewell” from my cake menu, which the Zucca chefs served up as dessert accompanied by ice cream.

I love how the couple included their darling little dog Freddie in the day – even in the cake cutting!
